Chinese Tui Na

Tui Na dates back 2000 years to the Shang Dynasty of China. Through the application of massage and manipulation techniques Tui na seeks to establish a more harmonious flow of Qi through the system of channels and collaterals, allowing the body the naturally heal itself, similar to principles of acupuncture, moxibustion, and acupressure. The major focus of application is upon specific pain sites, acupressure points, energy meridians, and muscles and joints. Tui Na methods include the use of hand techniques to massage the soft tissue (muscles and tendons) of the body, acupressure techniques to directly affect the flow of Qi, and manipulation techniques to realign the musculoskeletal and ligamentous relationships (bone-setting). Tui Na massage is a series of pressing, tapping, and kneading with palms, fingertips, knuckles or implements that help the body to remove blockages along the meridians of the body and stimulates the flow of qi and blood to promote healing.

Benefits
It is well suited for the treatment of specific musculoskeletal disorders and chronic stress-related disorders of the digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems. Tui Na Massage is used as a beneficial treatment for both acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions, as well as some non-musculoskeletal conditions, neck pain and stress, headache, migraine, diabetes, low energy, back pain, sciatica, rheumatism, arthritis, joint pain or moving pain, ankle or wrist pain and other sports injuries. This type of treatment has far fewer negative side effects than many of the modern drug and chemical-based treatments that are used today in our western culture. It promotes a relaxed state of mental alertness. Helps relieve mental stress, improves your ability to monitor stress signals and respond accordingly. Also enhances capacity for calm thinking and creativity.

Tui na is not especially useful for those seeking a mild, sedating and relaxing massage since it tends to be more task focused than other types of bodywork. Contraindications include conditions involving fractures, phlebitis, infectious conditions, open wounds, and lesions.
