Sports Massage in London

A sports massage is a technique developed not only for the professional athletes but it is very useful for everyone whose life involves intense activities.

It is based on the elements of a Swedish massage and other techniques like stretching, friction, compression, toning and trigger point response techniques similar to Shiatsu and Acupressure. The aim of the massage is to relieve soreness and mobility of the muscles, to enhance the muscle performance and promote prevention from the injury and faster recovery from the athletic performance and injuries. It is very good for relief of muscle tension and it restores the balance of the musculoskeletal system. We offer sports massage from our location in London.

There are four types of sports massage:

A pre-event massage is taken before the sport event and it is aimed towards those parts of the body, which will be active during an athletic exercise. It helps to stimulate muscle tension and circulation and thus to prepare the athlete for the optimal performance and reduce the risk of an injury.

A post-event massage takes place after the athletic performance and it concentrates on a reduction of muscle spasm and metabolic build up that emerges during the powerful exercise and it also concentrates on the recovery of body’s tissue.

A restorative sports massage should be given during the training to recover muscles from previous activity and also as a preparation for the following performance. This way it supports the healing of occurred injuries and simultaneously reduces the risk of injuries during the next exercise. It also allows the athlete to give a better performance.

A rehabilitative massage is given to reduce any injury and to speed up recovery and healing process of the body and muscles.

As it is with all the other massage types even the sports massage is not suitable for certain conditions, for example if you have some muscle tears, open wounds, sprained ligaments or burns. In case you are diabetic the massage might have the same effect on your blood sugar levels as an exercise, so it is advisable to have appropriate medication handy.
